L – CARNITINE 1 GM / 5 ML 5 AMP
* L-Carnitine 1 gm 5 Ampoules 5 ml. For slow IV injection OR For IV infusion.
* Indications:
& & – Primary carnitine deficiency: skeletal and cardiac muscle myopathy, hepatic encephalopathy.
& & – Secondary carnitine deficiency due to genetically determined disorders, acidurias and
& & disorders of beta-oxidation.
& & – Secondary carnitine deficiency due to acquired conditions: Haemodialysis and renal Fanconi
& & Syndrome, Anticonvulsant: Sodium valproate. Piampicillin therapy.
& & – L-Carnitine has a cardioprotective effect during Antineoplastic therapy.
& & – Myocardial infarction: L-Carnitine decreases the infarct size.
& & – Low birth weight infants.
& & – Full-term infants receiving Soya-based formula.
& & – Improve athletic performance in healthy subjects.
& & – Long-standing leg ulcers.
& & – Idiopathic asthenozoospermia.
& & – Hemolytic anemia (Thalassaemia && sickle cell anemia).
* Dosage:
& & Injection is administered intravenously. The recommended dose is 50 mg/kg given
& & as slow 2-3 minutes bolus injection or by infusion. Often a loading dose is given
& & in patients with severe metabolic crisis followed by an equivalent dose over the
& & following 24 hours. It should be administered q3h or qh and never less than q6h
& & either by infusion or by intravenous injection. All subsequent daily doses are
& & recommended to be in the range of 50 mg/kg or as therapy may require. The highest
& & dose administered has been 300 mg/kg.
* Pregnancy && Lactation:
& & No adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant or lactating women.
* Precaution && Warnings:
& & Renal impairment, free and acyl carnitine monitoring in blood and urine is recommended.
* Store in a dry place, at temp. Not exceeding 30 degrees C. Keep away from light.
