** Lovir (Acyclovir) 400 mg 10 Dispersible Tablets.

** Composition:
Each dispersible tablet contains:
Acyclovir 400 mg

** Indications:
1- Herpes Genitalis: treatment of initial, recurrent Herpes Genitalis infections in immunocompromised and non-immunocompromised patients. It is also used in the prophylaxis against recurrent Herpes Genitalis infection in immunocompromised patients.
2- Herpes Zoster: treatment && prophylaxis of Herpes Zoster infections, including treatment of Herpes Zoster ophthalmicus.
Treatment is effective if started within 48 hours of the onset of the rash.
3- Chickenpox: treatment is effective if started within 24 hours of the onset of the rash.
4- Mucocutaneous Herpes Simplex: prophylaxis && treatment of Herpes Simplex (HSV-1 && HSV-2) infections.

** Dosage:

The tablets could be swallowed whole or dispersed in 50ml of water (= a quarter of a glass).

a) Adults:
1- Herpes Genitalis infections:
– initial: 400mg orally, 3 times daily, for 10 days.
– Recurrent infections: 400mg orally, 3 times daily, for 5 days.
– Chronic suppressive therapy: 400mg orally, 2 times daily, for up to 12 months.
2- Herpes Zoster: 800mg orally, 5 times daily, for 7 to 10 days.
3- Varicella: 800mg orally, 4 times daily, for 5 days. Treatment is effective if started within 24 hours of the onset of the rash.
4- Prophylaxis: In renal && bone marrow transplantation, the dose is 400-800mg daily in 2 divided doses for up to 6 months.

b) Children:
1- Herpes simplex:
I. Treatment: < 2 years: 200mg (1/2 tablet), 3 times daily, for 5 days. > 2 years: 400mg (1 tablet), 3 times daily, for 5 days.
II. Prophylaxis: < 2 years: 200mg (1/2 tablet), 2 times daily, for 5-10 days. > 2 years: 400mg (1 tablet), 2 times daily, for 5-10 days.
2- Chickenpox (Varicella) and Herpes Zoster:
Treatment: < 2 years: 200mg (1/2 tablet), 4 times daily, for 5-7 days.
2-5 years: 400mg (1 tablet), 4 times daily, for 5-7 days.
Over 6 years: 800mg (2 tablets), 4 times daily, for 5-7 days.

The duration of treatment in immunocompromised patients with Herpes Simplex may need to be prolonged beyond the recommended period until the lesions are crusted over or epithelialized.

** Store in a dry place below 30 degrees C.
